The European Challenge Tour starts its 25th season next week at the Barclays Kenya Open at Karen Golf Club, just outside Nairobi. The tour consists of 28 events, finishing at the Road To Oman, where the top 15 players will graduate on to the 2017 Race To Dubai.

BlackStar Golf will have 3 players on the tour in 2016.

Oliver Farr returns to the Challenge Tour, having finished 10th on the rankings in 2014, Ollie hopes his experiances of 2015 on the main tour, will help him make an immediate return to the 2017 race To Dubai.

Chris Selfridge from Northern Ireland played a limited schedule on the Challenge Tour last year, having turned professional in May 2015 after graduating from the University of Toledo, he played 12 events, and didnt miss a cut eventually finishing 52 on the rankings. With last years experiance of playing some events, Chris is very much looking forward to his first full season as a professional.

BlackStar's 3rd player is 22 year old Jimmy Mullen who was part of the 2015 victorious Walker Cup team, Jimmy joined BlackStar in October last year, and finished a very creditable tied 30th at the Dunhill Links Trophy. Jimmy eventually got to the Final Q School where he missed out on his full tour card, but became a full member of the Challenge Tour. Like Chris he is very much looking forward to his first full season as a Professional.

Mullen starts 2016 in South Africa,

b2ap3_thumbnail_Mullen---Good.jpg

Jimmy Mullen, one of stars of the 2015 winning Walker Cup team starts his first full season as Professional at the Dimension Data Pro Am on the Sunshine Tour in South Africa on Thursday.

Although Mullen made it all the way through to the final stage of the notoriously tough European Q School, his final position only guaranteed a place on the 2016 European Challenge tour. Jimmy, 22 who represents the Royal North Devon GC said

"I put so much effort into making the Walker Cup team and did great, I then played great at the Dunhill. The year was going absolutely amazing then it all just came crashing down at the end.

But you've got to learn from it and move on. I've got to learn to play professional golf somewhere and the Challenge Tour is going to be a great place for me to start.

A lot of great players started there and I don't see the problem with me starting there and learning my trade there."

Mullen's next event will be the season opening Barclays Kenya Open on the European Challenge in 3 weeks time, along with fellow BlackStar golfers Oliver Farr and Chris Selfridge

Selfridge's season cruelly cut short by injury.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Chris-Selfridge.jpg

Chris Selfridge's season was cruelly cut short by a wrist injury prior to the third round of the European Tour School's second stage at El Saler in Spain. Rounds of 70 and 69 had the 21 year old tied for 5th place in the event, with 18 players advancing forward from this stage, a place in the Final School was looking very probable. Prior to round 3 Chris was warming up on the range when the injury happened and he was unable to play and had to take the agonising decision to withdraw.

Although the 2015 season has ended disappointingly Selfridge has made a very impressive debut season, he turned professional in May after graduating from the University Of Toledo in Ohio and  has played 12 events on the notoriously tough European Challenge Tour and has made every cut, eventually finishing 52nd on the final rankings, this position will enable Chris to play a full schedule in 2016, and hopefully if he continues his form from this year a top 15 place in the rankings will see him graduate on to the main tour without having to go the Tour School this time next year.

Farr to make 2015 European Tour debut in South Africa.

Oliver Farr TurkeyOliver Farr plays his first European Tour event, tomorrow at the picturesque Leopard Creek GC, South Africa; the first full field on the 2015 Race to Dubai schedule.

Farr, sponsored by Bromsgrove based Curo Chartered Accountants and Bank Frick turned professional in 2011. Farr rose through the professional ranks with a very impressive results list. In 2013 he played the UK based PGA EuroPro Tour – he played 19 events, winning twice, including the end of season Tour Championship and he recorded 5 further top 5 finishes to win the 2013 EuroPro ranking.

This ranking gained him full membership of the PGA European Challenge Tour for 2014, where he established himself by winning the 2014 Turkish Airlines Challenge in only his 4th event.

In addition to his win Farr had 4 further top 5 finishes, and made 16 cuts out of 22 events played.
These results elevated Farr to move up the Official World Rankings in 2014 to a career high of 249, having started the year at 1503.

Farr, who is coached by his father Graham, the head PGA Professional at Worcester GC is looking forward to getting started, but realises there is a lot of hard work still to be done to establish himself as a tournament professional,

“I’ve got work to do in the winter months as I’m already planning just how to improve my game, but I’ve got a working formula that seems to be going well.”

Farr plans on playing approximately 28 events in 2015, which will take him all over the world, hopefully finishing in Dubai in November 2015 at the lucrative 2015 Race to Dubai World Championship.
